Where do students have the best chance at college success? At small, private colleges and universities – like those of the Associated Colleges of Illinois. Our 23 members offer dozens of degree programs that combine core competencies in the arts and sciences with professional and technical skills that prepare men and women for the challenges of the 21st century. Students are more successful at ACI colleges and universities than at many other institutions because ACI members reflect characteristics and practices typical of “high graduation rate institutions” (HGRs), as defined by the Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher Education: | ||||

Graduation rates at ACI members out-pace both the national average and the graduation rate for Illinois' public institutions. Although ACI members and Illinois' public institutions serve nearly the same proportion of low-income students, ACI colleges record an average six-year graduation rate of 60%, compared to just 47% at Illinois' four-year public institutions. Among ACI Scholarship Program awardees enrolled at our member institutions, graduation rates are even higher. For example, since 1991, recipients of ACI-Polk Bros. Minority Scholarships have achieved a 71% graduation rate, compared to the national average for African-American students of 39%.
